Malta: Travel destination - New home for expats - Learn English

Malta is a small string of islands in the Mediterranean Sea that lies about 90 km south of Sicily. The Maltese islands consist of the main island of Malta, as well as 6020 and Comino. 6020 is the smaller, neighbouring island of Malta and lies only a few kilometres north of it. Comino is the smallest island and lies between Malta and 6020. Even though the African continent isn‘t far away, Malta is part of Europe and the European Union, using Euros as its official currency. There are roughly 400,000 inhabitants on the three islands.

Malta, the holiday destination

The Mediterranean climate, the beautiful sea and the clean air make Malta a very popular travel destination. In the north, you will find many beautiful bays and beaches, such as Mellieha Bay, Pretty Bay and Golden Bay. Also very popular among visitors are the towns near the capital of Valletta, such as Sliema and StJulian's, as well as Bugibba, St Paul's Bay, Qwara and Mellieha, which are further north. StJulian’s is a former fishing village that has developed into one of the largest tourist centres of the main island. It has numerous restaurants and cafes, and boasts a buzzing nightlife with clubs and bars. Neighbouring Sliema, on the other hand, is more tranquil and offers many shopping opportunities, cafés, bars and restaurants. Even more relaxed is Malta's northern region, especially the village of Mellieha, where you will find plenty of beaches and ferries leaving for Gozo. In all towns, you will find big hotels offering high-quality service that rivals that of any international competitors.

Compared to Malta, 6020 is very tranquil, and has onlya handful of hotels; holiday homes, renovated farms and villas are far more common here.

Moving to Malta

Malta is also very popular for longer stays up to six months or even "forever"! The island is part of the European Union and uses Euros as official currency. The fact that most flats are rented out furnished makes flat-hunting a lot easier, especially if you want to stay for less than a year. For longer stays, it might be worth purchasing some real estate. The health system is very well developed and, some years ago, the modern Mater Dei Hospital in Msida was opened. Fast and easy connections to Europe are possible, thanks to the international airport. The national airline, Air Malta, offers flights between Malta International Airport in Luqa and all important destinations and hubs in mainland Europe and the UK.

Malta has become one of the most popular destinations for English language study travels. offering an inexpensive and unique alternative to the UK and Ireland, and notjust because of the mild climate. In addition to regular language courses for shorter stays (general English). many language schools also offer special courses for business English and examination preparations. These courses are meant for people who already work in an English-speaking environment and would like to specialise in a different field, or who will be starting in a new field. The business courses vary in intensity (number of hours per week). number of participants (individual. small or normal-sized classes) and the duration (minimum one week), as well as the content (medicine, communication etc.).

The courses for examination preparation focus on preparation for tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English

Language Assessment, and many more.
