Luca Bassani Antivari builds sailing
yachts, very sleek sailing yachts...
And he builds motor yachts, extremely
fast motor yachts. His company
called Wally grew out of his passion
for sailing and boating and his
search for unwaivering quality and
comfort. With a sharp sense of
zen-like design, he creates nonplus-
ultra water vehicles. So what
does a water-guy like Bassani do in
winter? Does he stay on the water
following the sun to islands around
the world? No, he follows the sun
to the elite slopes of St. Moritz and
enjoys a variety of snow sports and
of course skiing. There he got the
idea to take the science of high
technology materials and apply it to
the manufacture of avant-gard skis.

In 1994 Bassani, a champion regatta
helmsman with a reputation for
good taste, was on the look-out for
a new sail boat, but found the market
insufficient. As the famous saying
goes «necessity is the mother of
invention». So he set up a company
and got busy designing exactly the
kind of boat he was looking for.
His enthusiasm for new composite
technology mixed with his philosophy
of «less is more» came together
in a Wally genetic code: improved
functionality, ultra-light
revolutionary construction, pure
lines, and increased performance.

He invited leading developers,
design engineers and boatbuilders –
those at the top of the field in the
use of composites like Kevlar and
Carbon – into a joint venture. Since
then Bassani’s company based in
Monaco has become an industryicon
in the manufacture of exclusive
sailing yachts, motor yachts –
and now skis – with «space-age»
technology!

where Bassani spent the winters
since childhood. The idea came out

The surface of the ski in unmistakeably
uniformly black with a little
Wally logo in Titan at the end. The
wood core between diverse layers
of carbon fiber above and below,
lends a torsion-resisitant construction
with ensured flexibility. The
result is a dynamic ski. Wally
works with the best established
manufacturers, leaders in the use of
high-tech materials. That’s why
Wally Skis are made in Italy: in a
factory specialized in carbon processing
but without any connection
to the manufacturing of skis. The
ski body is compressed in autoclave
– an industrial process which uses a
vacuum oven to bake and harden
composites like carbon fiber and
Kevlar. Up to now no one believed
it was possible to make skis in this
way.
